Fall Colors on Guanella Pass

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

We needed to unwind.  We needed to breathe deeply.  We needed to get away.  We needed to go to the mountains.

I wanted to see the sun glisten on aspen leaves.  I wanted to hear the rustle of them quaking in the wind.  I wanted to photograph my family on a new adventure.

My Little Indoor Monkey

Monday, September 29, 2014

It has been months since we have been to Monkey Business since most of our play has been outdoors over the summer.  I knew we had to blow of some steam on Friday evening ad we took advantage of the $5 family night.

Monkey Business might be a little boy's dream, but it is a photographing mom's worst nightmare.  The constantly cycling lights, the really dark corners.  It all causes terrible white balance, the ISO cranked all the way, lots of digital noise, and tons of missed focus due to shutter speed and exposure.  Needless to say, capturing those happy moments are what I shoot for, and we had the greatest time on Friday getting out of the house and out of the routine.

Kids Were Here - Late September

Sunday, September 28, 2014

Each month I'll be taking part in a "Kids Were Here" blog circle.  The goal is to capture a childhood well lived without little AB actually being in the photo.

This month's theme was "around the house"; I think based on my photos it would have been more like "through the doorway" since all of my photos seem to have that in common this time.

From the playroom, to the book shelves, to the small bathroom stepping stool, our house is more of a home because of the little things that fill it.

Now, please continue on with the circle and visit Missy to see what she captured this month.

Weekend Adventure: Chatfield Botanic Gardens Corn Maze

Saturday, September 27, 2014

Get ready for photo overload.

Last weekend we went to the corn maze at Chatfield Botanic Gardens.  My hope was that by going early in corn maze season we would beat most of the crowd.  What I forgot about with going early is out sweaty hot it could still be in September.

The maze was the perfect family outing.  We played on the big jumping pillow, which the little guy was in love with.  I wasn't sure based on our previous experiences with jumping castles how he would do, but he really impressed me with his courage to get on there and try it out.

We skipped the hayride, pony rides and barrel train ride, and enjoyed some lemonade and kettle corn before we went through the mini corn maze for those under 10.  It was the perfect maze to just walk around without worrying about directions, and then quickly get out after a scraped knee induced tears for the boy.

It was a beautiful day out there!
