Stroller Trails Near Denver {The Bluffs Regional Park Loop Trail}

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

If you missed my earlier posts about stroller friendly hiking spots near Denver make sure to read about Waterton Canyon and Fountain Valley Trail.

Earlier this summer I was itching to get out and use a new camera lens, so we took a very quick drive over to Bluffs Regional Park, which is just off of Lincoln and I-25.  This park as a 2.7 mile loop trail which boasts great views of the city.  Although we didn't have any trouble with our City Mini, this trail has a few softer spots and does have a pretty good incline at times.  If you are walking this trail in the middle of the summer I would suggest going early in the day, or later in the evening, as the mid-day sun might just bake you on top of the bluff.

And a quick snapshot because, really, can you resist this little, sleepy face?! Gawh, love him.

Access to the trail is free.  To read more about Bluffs Regional Park, visit the Douglas County site: Bluffs Regional Park

Here Fishy Fishy

Monday, July 29, 2013

His whole life, the whopping 21 months he has existed on this earth, he has been fascinated by aquariums and by water.  He loves watching fish swim along and the bright colors in the tank.  This weekend he discovered the word "fish," however is pronounced more like "ish."

This tank was at The Wildlife Experience.  We went for the very first time on Sunday afternoon and he had a ball running through the exhibits.  It will be a great place to go back to this winter on a cold, snowy day.

Just a Night with a Toddler

I love watching him fake cry.  He is so dramatic and his pleading will make you want to give into any request. I have fierce mama love for him.

If You're Happy and You Know it Clap Your Hands

Wednesday, July 24, 2013

Right now we clap for everything.  We clap when a song ends on the radio, we clap when we finish the Itsy Bitsy Spider, we clap when we watch baseball, and we especially clap when the bubbles come out.

Stroller Trails Near Denver {Waterton Canyon}

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

As you know from my first post on stroller accessible trails near Denver, we love getting out into the fresh air and my camera is never far from my side on these adventures.

Every spring or summer we make our way out to Waterton Canyon which is is located just south of C-470 and Wadsworth.  The trail is very much like a two-lane dirt road, however it is restricted to auto-traffic with the exception of authorized vehicles.  You walk right along the river, and if you choose to hike 6.5 miles will come to the Strontia Springs Dam.  We have never hiked up to the spillway, but instead go about 2 miles in and then turn around.  On our last adventure, which was late last summer, we did see a herd of bighorn sheep.

Access to the trail is free.  To read more about Waterton Canyon, visit the Denver Water site: Denver Water - Waterton Canyon

90 Degrees at 7PM

Monday, July 22, 2013

We have been taking evening walks, and each time we pass by the pool Anders points in desire and leans as far as he can out of the stroller staring longingly at the cool water.  How can I resist that?  So, I've been promising that we would take a dip after dinner when the light is beautiful and the sun is still warm.

Enjoying Time with Friends

Sunday, July 21, 2013

We had dinner with some of our favorite friends this weekend and the kids loved playing together.  Despite the heat we enjoyed playing in the yard, and the wagon was the big hit for the evening.

Although big brother is out of focus here, I just love the relationship these two have.  He was running as fast as he could pulling the wagon behind, and his little sister was squealing with delight.

Boulder Farmer's Market

Saturday, July 20, 2013

We really enjoy going to the Farmer's Market, and one of my favorites is in Boulder.  It is always on the crowded side, but samples are plentiful and the food is beautiful.

Ba Ball

Friday, July 19, 2013

This little guy doesn't get to watch much TV yet, but when he does he LOVES to watch a "ba ball" game with his daddy.  Anytime he sees a baseball on the TV, or in person, he gets so extremely excited and proudly proclaims "Ba Ball!" while he points widely.

Pull Your Pants Up

Being a skinny little guy means that when you play hard your pants just might not stay up.  Being a mom means you get to take pictures of that moment.

Stroller Trails Near Denver {Fountain Valley Trail at Roxborough State Park}

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

Photography and spending time with my family - my favorite things.  We love getting out on the weekends to take a nice walk or a hike, but given that little A is still too small to take long walks on his own, we are always on the look out for stroller friendly hikes near Denver.  Over the next few weeks I'm going to post some of the places we have taken our little khaki City Mini.  Our stoller has been able to handle all of the trails I will feature around the city nicely.

...

A few weeks back we went to Roxborough State Park and walked along the stroller accessible Fountain Valley Trail.  This is an unpaved trail that is just over 2 miles and winds it way around the rock formations and the buildings built by Henry S. Persse.  The views are sweeping and breathtaking.  During our hike we did spot a couple of deer, several types of birds.

Access to the park does have a $7 daily fee.  To read more about Roxborough, visit the park site: Trails at Roxborough State Park.

Vail On a Whim

Sunday, July 14, 2013

Earlier this week we decided to plan a quick overnight trip to Vail.  We booked the Mountain Haus at the Covered Bridge.  This was the first time we had stayed at this hotel and for the rate it was great and included a decent continental breakfast.  The one down side was there was no AC, which I'm sure isn't often needed in the mountains, but it was a little warm while we were sleeping.  AB handled the overnight trip with success, and even stayed up very late because he was so excited to be staying somewhere new, which makes me think he can handle our upcoming travel adventures well.

We got up to Vail around 7:30, checked in and then strolled through the village, where we stopped at the Ore House for a night cap.  On Saturday we woke up for breakfast, took a nice long walk into Lionshead and back to the village, before heading to Minturn for their Saturday market, and lunch in Edwards.

Our Trip to Edwards Animal Rescue

Friday, July 12, 2013

Today we were able meet up with other moms and babies for a trip out to Edwards Animal Rescue.  We really enjoyed seeing all of the horses, donkeys, goats, sheep and  chickens.

Take Me Home Country Roads

Tuesday, July 9, 2013

The past couple weekends we have strapped A into the car, and have driven the back country roads of town.  The sun setting brings out the deer and endless beauty and we have really enjoyed getting lost so close to home.

Life + Lens {Summer}

Monday, July 8, 2013

Summer is hot days, cool nights.  Summer is going to the park.  Summer is listening to the crickets, sipping frosty drinks, swinging on swings, walking barefoot in fresh cut grass, eating ice cream.

Summer is double fisting corn on the cob and watermelon chunks.

Summer is splashing at the pool.

Summer is requesting bubble shows nightly.

Summer is magic.

I'm taking part in a blog circle with several other fabulous ladies, make sure to head over to Jacqui's blog to see some of her summer lifestyle photos.
